Water Heater Installation & Repair
Hot Water, Installed Right
A water heater ties into the gas or electric supply, the venting, and the water lines, and in NYC replacing a gas water heater is permitted work filed with the Department of Buildings. We size the heater, file the permit, install it, and see it through inspection.
When an existing heater stops making hot water, we find out whether it's a part or the tank before we quote anything. If it can't be repaired, we can quote a replacement on the same visit.
Every Install Includes
- Sizing for your household or building
- DOB permit filed and inspection handled
- Gas or electric, venting, and water connections to code
- Relief valve and expansion tank checked or installed
- Old heater removed and hauled away
- Water pooling under the tank? Shut the cold-water valve on top of the heater and call us.
Water Heaters We Install & Repair
The right heater depends on how much hot water you use, the space you have, and how the building is heated.
Homes: gas, electric, and tankless heaters for one- and two-family houses, co-ops, and condos.
Buildings: commercial and multifamily heaters, including H-stamp heaters over 350,000 BTU that need the annual DOB boiler inspection.
Most tank heaters last 8 to 12 years. If yours is in that range and leaking or rusting, replacing it usually costs less than repairing it twice.
Ask which heater fitsHeater Types
- Gas tank. The most common heater. Simple, reliable, and the lowest cost to install.
- Electric tank. For apartments and homes without gas, or where a flue isn't available. No venting needed.
- Tankless. Heats water on demand and frees up floor space. Needs the right gas line and venting.
- Indirect. A storage tank heated by the boiler, for homes that already have a hot water boiler.
- Commercial. High-input heaters for restaurants, multifamily, and commercial buildings.

Yes. Replacing a gas water heater in New York City is permitted work that has to be filed with the Department of Buildings. We file the permit and handle the inspection as part of the job.
Most tank heaters, gas or electric, last 8 to 12 years. Tankless heaters can last up to 20 years with regular descaling. Hard use, sediment, and a failed anode rod shorten a tank's life.
If the tank itself is leaking, it has to be replaced. A failed thermocouple, gas valve, heating element, thermostat, or relief valve can usually be repaired. If the heater is near the end of its life, we'll tell you whether a repair is worth it.
Tankless heaters save floor space and don't run out of hot water, but they need a larger gas line and new venting in many NYC homes. We check both before recommending one, so the price you're quoted includes everything the install needs.
Shut the cold-water valve on top of the heater. Turn the gas valve to off, or switch off the breaker for an electric heater. If you smell gas, leave the building and call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Then call us for emergency service.
